The Kano State Police Command has said it has arrested four suspects in connection with the N6.8 million allegedly swallowed by a Gorilla at Kano Zoological Gardens.
This is coming as the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, rejected the claims, saying the zoo in question had no gorilla.
Ganduje was said to have stated this while speaking with State House Correspondents on Tuesday, according to Punch report.
Spokesman of the Kano State Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects which include security officials and the accountant, charged them for negligence.
He however, wondered why such a huge sum of money was kept within the Zoological complex in the first place for a period of five days during the recent Sallah period when the incident allegedly occurred.
He said: ”Whoever is found guilty, at the end of investigations would be charged to court for prosecution.”
When contacted for his comment of the incident, the Managing Director of the Zoological Garden, Umar Yusuf Hashe Katchakobo declined comments as the matter is under investigation.
Smartgist24 recalls that a Gorilla recently swallowed N6.8 million said to be proceeds from gate takings at the Zoological Gardens, which attracted numerous spectators, at the just concluded Eid–el-Fitr (Sallah) celebrations.
In a dramatic twist, the Command Spokesman, said earlier that the Police received a distress call, that suspected bandits had attacked an employee of the zoo in the night and stole N6.8 million.
